Lake Worth Community High School Visit
Guy Fieri and the Guy Fieri Foundation stopped by Lake Worth Community High School on March 22 for an in person speaking engagement to motivate and inspire the students in the culinary arts programs and to tour the classrooms.
Our Founder, Guy Fieri spoke to an auditorium of 200 students to discuss life and its challenges and provided words of encouragement and inspiration. In chatting with the students, he impressed on them the importance of sharing their name, a handshake and a smile and encouraged them to stand up and speak clearly. Guy wanted to speak to the kids and just encourage them that if they want to be a chef or not, it doesn’t matter. Cooking is a life skill that everybody needs to have.
“He talked to them about working hard, having goals and volunteering to serve others. He told them that if you work hard and serve others, you’ll always be rewarded,” said Principal Epps of Lake Worth Community High School. “He shared with the kids that he grew up poor and emphasized how important it is to establish your goals and work at them every day,” Epps said.
“I’m so glad he came over and spoke to the students. Our school is 94 percent free or reduced lunch. A lot of our students have no plans to go to college,” Epps said. “Guy Fieri told the kids, ‘Go to college! And you can also work in the food industry along the way. That’s what he did.” Principal Epps says Fieri’s visit gave his students a much-needed boost.
Lake Worth High’s culinary academy is part of the Palm Beach County School District’s Culinary Arts Program, which trains students in all aspects of food preparation and service. The school is one of 11 district schools that offer the program’s curriculum and one of five that open their program to students across the district. After speaking with the students, Guy and the Foundation team toured the culinary arts classes and visited with the teachers who guide these students and prepare them for the future. Big thanks to Emma Suarez and John Sanchez for taking the time to show us around the classes and share time with the students. The Guy Fieri Foundation also provided over 20 aprons for the program for the students to use in class. Thank you, Chef Works, for your support.
